Paola Almonte - Social Horror

Social Horror features two vloggers who aim to become popular on social media through photos and videos of unsettling moments. They aim their sights and goals by chasing after the mythical forest monster to boost their social media platform, despite being aware that they’re risking their lives for social attention. What has pushed me into creating this film is that I noticed how people on social media are willing to take any risks, even their own lives, if it means they will get attention by the audience like receiving followers, likes, or just the number of views. Even though there are many positive comments, some people can leave harmful comments that can impact a creator’s life. This goes to show the negative consequences of how social media influences the way younger people think. Social media has changed the way video marketing works. Anyone can create an account for free and just record with their own smartphone and start making a business.

The constant style changes between puppet tween to rotoscope and 2D animation indicate the mood changes or the different circumstances happening in the film based on what the characters are feeling or experiencing. The 3D rendered backgrounds help to create a sense of world building and depth. Rotoscoping means the characters are into the moment. Puppet rig animation shows physical social interactions or dialogue. 2D animation is a blend of active moments, exploration or showcasing emotions.
